Finally, your 6-year journey comes to an end. You have spent quite a huge portion of your lives in your now, alma mater, and you will still spend a greater part of your lives on the road to self-discovery and greatness.

You will undertake numerous ventures that will demand your time and your commitment, and as such, it is important that you understand the importance of managing and prioritizing your time.  Your time is the most valuable commodity you have as youths, and must be used judiciously on worthwhile ventures, because managing your time effectively gives you control over yourself and life’s impulses and helps you make better and sound decisions.

Here are few tips about time management I want you to go with as you further your journey in life.

For you to manage your time effectively you must understand the need to prioritize your affairs by matters of urgency and importance. This is called the time formula.

This time equation is based on urgency and importance and is what has led great men and women to be highly successful; for no man can attain the height of success without commanding his time in favorable exchange for wealth.

The time formula simply states that some tasks are important and urgent, some tasks are important but not urgent, some tasks are urgent but not important, and some tasks are neither urgent and nor important. Knowing this, will help you attach to each task on your to-do-list, appropriate time durations in accordance with its level of importance or urgency.

For example, in university, reading your handouts frequently may not be urgent but its importance cannot be overlooked. Calling to check on loved ones or showing care and attention may not seem urgent but this simple act is important to forge meaningful relationship that will help you ascend the mountain of progress. Also, attending a talk-of-the-town party may seem urgent but, weighing its consequence in relation to spending that same time planning for the coming week may reveal its insignificance.

You are now young men and women whose life-decisions will shape the future of our dear nation, Nigeria. This simple time formula will help you greatly in identifying those little things in your life that do not scream of attention but are very vital to your success and development.
